Laboratory Safety

Rules of Laboratory Safety General Safety and Hygiene Guidelines

  1. You must wear a lab coat in all labs to protect you and your clothing from accidental spills, or contact with the hazardous materials, in the lab.
  2. Do not run, play, eat, or conduct activities that are not related to the lab’s function.
  3. The lab should be always kept clean and tidy. The chemicals and instruments must be put back to their original places and the lab table and floor should be kept clean.
  4. Smoking is strictly prohibited in the lab.
  5. Avoid conducting hazardous experiments when alone in the lab.
  6. Instruments must be placed securely to prevent them from moving. Use acoustic boards for those instruments that generate excessive noise.
  7. Before carrying out your experiments, be sure to carefully read the instructions/contents of your book. Also, be sure to constantly evaluate both advantages and disadvantages (pros and cons) of your experimental methods for improvement.
  8. To prevent electric surges, do not overload one supply circuit by plugging all lab instruments and equipment into it.
  9. Do not operate electrical equipment while your hands are wet.
  10. Before using a reagent, you must check its label to avoid misuse. Before handling any drugs, pay attention to their nature. This helps prevent any potential accidents from happening.
  11. In case of a fire caused by electrical equipment or a massive electrical failure, cut the power supply immediately.
  12. Do not operate lab equipment without authorization.
